WOODEN HEART

WOODEN HEART - Listener
We’re all born to broken people on their most honest day of living
and since that first breath... We’ll need grace that we’ve never given
well I've been haunted by standard red devils and white ghosts
and it's not only when these eyes are closed
these lies are ropes that I tie down in my stomach,
but they hold this ship together tossed like leaves in this weather
and my dreams are sails that I point towards my true north,
stretched thin over my rib bones, and pray that it gets better
but it won’t, at least I don’t believe it will...
so I've built a wooden heart inside this iron ship,
to sail these blood red seas and find your coasts.
don’t let these waves wash away your hopes
this war-ship is sinking, and I still believe in anchors
pulling fists full of rotten wood from my heart, and I'll still believe in saviours
but I know that we are all made out of shipwrecks, every single board
washed and bound like crooked teeth on these rocky shores
so come on and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, just some tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember

I am the barely living son of a woman and man who barely made it
but we’re making it taped together on borrowed crutches and new starts
we all have the same holes in our hearts...
everything falls apart at the exact same time
that it all comes together perfectly for the next step
but my fear is this prison... that I keep locked below the main deck
I keep a key under my pillow, it’s quiet and it’s hidden
and my hopes are weapons that I’m still learning how to use right
but they’re heavy and I’m awkward...always running out of fight
so I’ve carved a wooden heart, put it in this sinking ship
hoping it would help me float for just a few more weeks
because I am made out of shipwrecks, every twisted beam
lost and found like you and me all scattered out on the sea
so come on let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, we're just some tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember

My throat it still tastes like house fire and salt water
I wear this tide like loose skin, come on rock me to sea
if we hold on tight we’ll hold each other together
and not just be some fools rushing to die in our sleep
while all these machines will rust I promise, but we'll still be electric
shocking each other back to life
Your hand in mine, my fingers in your veins connected
our bones grown together in time
our hands entwined, my fingers in your veins connected
our spines grown stronger inside
cause I know that our church is all made out of shipwrecks
from every hull these rocks have claimed
but we pick ourselves up, and try and grow better through the change
so come on and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
and fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
come on and sew us together, were just some tattered rags stained forever
we only have what we remember

JESUS IS.....

>> Tuesday, February 8, 2011

This is something my good friend and brother in Christ, Pastor Jake Klassen put together:
We live in a day and time where it seems as though Christ isn't relevent for the problems Christians face today. But how reversed is our view? Folks if the Word of God is infallible – and it is, if it is good for doctrine, for correction, and training in righteousness – and it is, then that must mean that effectual working of Christ is not merely sufficient for salvation in eternity, but also for life and godliness here in the present. I have compiled a list of the offices the scriptures declare Jesus holds. This is by no means a comprehensive list. So beloved, Jesus is our...

The Maker of the Universe

>> Tuesday, January 4, 2011

When my kiddies go to bed they enjoy listening to Phil Keaggy's album Way Back Home. They always enjoy starting on the song Father-Daughter Harmony. But this post is not about that song. It's about the song of this posts title, The Maker of the Universe, and the beautiful imagery and poetic lyrics. And in case you miss it, it's all about Jesus!! lol

Maker Of The Universe

The Maker of the universe, As Man, for man was made a curse.
The claim of Law which He had made, Unto the uttermost He paid.
His holy fingers made the bough, Which grew the thorns that crowned His brow.
The nails that pierced His hand were mined, In secret places He designed.
He made the forest whence there sprung, The tree on which His body hung.
He died upon the cross of wood, Yet made the hill on which it stood.
The sky that darkened o'er His head, by Him above the earth was spread.
The sun that hid from Him its face, by His decree was poised in space.
The spear which spilled His precious blood, Was tempered in the fire of God.
The grave in which His form was laid, Was hewn in rocks His hands had made.
The throne on which He now appears, Was His from everlasting years.
But a new glory crowns His brow, And every knee to Him shall bow.
The Maker Of The Universe

Books, Books and more Books!!

>> Monday, January 3, 2011

So the last two and a half years I've probably read more books then I had since I could read. Never really cared for it much, but over the last couple of years, I've had this appetite for learning. Apart from listening to some great sermons, reading (and listening to) some of these pastors books have been a great learning tool for me. I'm hoping to read at least a book a month this year (but hopefully more). Also getting credits for free audio books is pretty sweet too.

Dying to Self

>> Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Here is a journal entry i made probably 2 years ago to the day. In fact, it's the only one I made in this journal.

This is my journey. This is where the old self ends and a new self begins. I don't know where it will take me but I know that God has something greater in store than this. It scares me because I have been this person for so many years. It's comfortable, familiar but it's brought nothing but pain and heartache and destructive behaviour. God gave me a beautiful gift in Heather and I've broken that. I've never allowed God to take over my life. I thought I could do it on my own. I was selfish, prideful. I didn't display love the way God intended me to.
LOVE IS 1)PATIENT 2)KIND 3)NOT JEALOUS 4)NOT BOASTFUL 5)NOT PROUD 6)NOT RUDE 7)IT DOES NOT DEMAND IT'S OWN WAY 8)IT IS NOT IRRITABLE 9)IT KEEPS NO RECORD OF BEING WRONGED 10)IT DOES NOT REJOICE ABOUT INJUSTICE BUT REJOICES WHENEVER THE TRUTH WINS OUT 11)IT NEVER GIVES UP 12)IT NEVER LOSES FAITH 13)IT IS ALWAYS HOPEFUL 14)AND IT ENDURES THROUGH EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE.
I look over this list and I have not loved as I should have. But I know there is hope. There are three things that survive, FAITH, HOPE & LOVE, and the greatest of these is LOVE. Love will win out in the end. God gave Jesus to show HIS love for us. Today I was reading in John 17:1-26. Jesus prayed to God, His Father, and He was giving Himself as a Holy Sacrifice so that I could be made holy through God's truth. That we would all be connected to God as Jesus is.
I have a tattoo of three nails making up a cross and a crown of thorns around it. The verse that goes with it is Galatians 2:20, "My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ living in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of Man, who loved me and gave Himself for me." I've never, never crucified my old self. God LOVED me SO MUCH that He sent His Son to die for me. Galatians 5:24 "Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there." Earlier in the passage it says that we need to let the Holy Spirit guide our lives. I need to let the Spirit control and guide me in my thoughts and actions and produce Good Fruit,
1)LOVE 2)JOY 3)PEACE 4)PATIENCE 5)KINDNESS 6)GOODNESS 7)FAITHFULNESS 8)GENTLENESS 9)AND SELF-CONTROL.
My life has not produced Good Fruit, especially with Heather. I look at my life and I can compare things about our house. There is lots of crap around and I've not been willing to get rid of it. Just like I've held on to a lot of junk in my own life. It piles up and piles up and takes up more and more space til it's all there is. It's ugly and unsightly so you put it in a closet, or basement and hide it away so no one will see. But eventually you run out of room to hide it and it's out in the open and you have to deal with it, get rid of it. Find where it is in every nook and cranny and clean house, start new and fresh. Jesus did that for me. He has cleaned my house but I kept filling it with junk til my junk overflowed. I tried to hide it for so long and think it was ok, BUT IT'S NOT.
By the grace of God the Father, with the guiding of the Holy Spirit, and the knowledge and understanding the Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour died for me once and for all, THIS JUNK CAN GO. It's time to clean house and start new and fresh and see the Good Fruits come through.
